EVOLVE Energy Management Solutions S.A. is a company under the RCI Holding, founded in 2023 in response to the challenges posed by the transition to a carbon-neutral society. Our goal is to offer services that incorporate the highest expertise across the entire value chain of the electricity market:

Our team consists of specialists with top management experience in some of the largest energy companies in Romania, as well as experts in national energy policy, including positions within ANRE (the National Regulatory Authority for Energy).
The process of “greenification” begins with Renewable Energy Sources (RES) and culminates in more efficient, carbon-neutral energy consumption at the end-user level.

Given RES’s characteristic generation discontinuity and relatively poor predictability, system balancing becomes increasingly crucial.
EVOLVE strongly believes that energy storage is the key to a green future, with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) being the current and future solution for storage.
We have developed a financial model for BESS that identifies all revenue streams, highlighting the most significant ones and achieving a two-digit IRR. Additionally, we are committed to ensuring grid capability to accommodate all RES, from large-scale power plants to distributed RES (rooftop generation). This commitment drives our interest in flexibility services, with the goal of becoming a major player in the balancing market.

Our expertise
The current context of the electricity market is characterized by a strong emphasis on producing electricity from renewable sources.
However, the transition to green energy is a complex process that must take into account the needs of the end consumer, both in terms of electricity and heat consumption. While in 20-30 years we may exclusively talk about electric transportation or electric heating, the present shows us that this transition will be long and costly.
The production of electricity from renewable sources introduces a level of difficulty, as the forecasting of electricity generation relies on weather predictions. Consequently, the imbalances recorded by this type of electricity generation (which range from 3% to 10% for photovoltaic energy and from 8% to 15% for wind energy) pose a major stress on grid stability.
This results in an increased need for balancing services for ancillary services. Combined with the current state of the wholesale energy market (as regulated by OUG 27/2022 and culminating with Law 206/2023), this has led many investors in renewable energy generation capacities to explore the opportunity to invest in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
In addition to these challenges, the year 2025 will introduce a new concept into the regulatory framework for network operators: flexibility services. These services will aim to delay or avoid network investments by utilizing flexibility services. There will be a market for flexibility service providers, where network operators will purchase these services, and flexibility providers (e.g., suppliers) will sell these services. One of the technical solutions for providing flexibility services is BESS.
EVOLVE was part of the consortium that delivered consultancy services for ANRE in 2023, specifically the “Study on Best Regulatory Practices regarding the Treatment of Controllable Maintenance and Operating Costs and the Use and Procurement of Flexibility Services.”
EVOLVE conducted the second part of the study, which focused on flexibility services.
